How to shop for a PFAS-free air fryer.
The useful question is not whether an appliance sounds “healthy.” It is which surfaces touch the food, what the manufacturer actually discloses, and whether the claim applies to the whole appliance or one accessory.

For the clearest material story, start with an uncoated glass cooking vessel. Then compare capacity, cleanup, and the rest of the accessories.
PFAS, PTFE, and PFOA are not interchangeable labels
PFAS is a broad family of fluorinated chemicals. PTFE is a fluoropolymer associated with that family. PFOA is one specific chemical, not a synonym for every PFAS. A listing that says only “PFOA-free” leaves an important question unanswered for shoppers who are specifically avoiding PFAS or PTFE.

Buyer checklist
- Identify the basket, bowl, tray, rack, grill plate, and lid materials.
- Look for PFAS-free or PTFE-free language, not just PFOA-free.
- Check whether the claim applies to one surface or the entire appliance.
- Review care instructions; coatings can wear with metal utensils and abrasive cleaning.
- Verify the exact model number and current Amazon listing before purchasing.
